A research is an addition to existing knowledge or data. A systematic investigation to find out new data or fact is otherwise called research. Researches can either be academic or non-academic, but they always add value to existing literature.

Types of research

Scientific research: Scientific research is mainly based on scientific method, providing scientific information, theories and explanations. Scientific research makes practical application possible. Scientific research is often funded by a number of organisations like – public authorities, charitable organisations, or others similar interest groups. A lot of companies also fund them if the research can help in their business.

Humanities research: Research in humanities includes semiotics and hermeneutics, and epistemology. This kind of research is more about exploring the details about issues. In humanities research context is of prime importance. Context can be social, political, historical, or cultural.

Artistic research: This research is also known as 'practice-based research'. This kind of research is both the research and object of research itself.

Modes of research

There are two modes of research: Qualitative and Quantitative.

While qualitative research is more on the behavioural pattern of people, quantitative research is more about the numbers. Both are used in a number of industrial research works.

VMMS can be helpful in research work

Questionnaires can be sent out to people through video SMS. This not only saves time, but paper too. At a time when the world is striving to go green and reduce global warming, saving paper should be a good reason why one would conduct a survey through video SMS.

Responses on audio-visual SMS would also help in viewing them from anywhere and at anytime, and as many times as well.  Irrespective of qualitative or quantitative video SMS questionnaires can solve both problems.

Extensive interviews for researches can also be recorded by mobile cameras and sent as a video SMS. Since VMMS does not limit users of any particular file size, unlimited sized clips can be shared, for conclusions to be drawn.
